Day 47 - The "easy" border crossing

December 18th

Josh and I groggily woke up at 5am to get to the border early. Once there we headed through the American side and all was good, the problem came when we got to the Mexican side one of the guys said we would not fit under the entrance. Unfortunately no one spoke English at the border crossing so we had to interpret as well as Sam and I could, he seemed insistent that we leave. We turned around heading to the other crossing, only to realize we are now in no man's land and we have to cross back into the states in order to go to the other crossing. After some talk we decide to try the Mexican side again now that many trucks are heading that way. We waited in a truck line for a while and consider that it will probably be faster to drive with the cars. I got on the bus and measure our roof to be sure and we have an inch of clearance compared to the warning sign at the crossing so I think we should try it. After a consensus we go back and talk to the same man who thought we would hit our roof. Sam and I struggled to get a complete understanding of what he meant. I thought that he said we will hit since an RV did before us and that if we damage anything we will have to pay a fine. Sam reccomended we turn around and go to the other border crossing since the man was persistent we don't try. Knowing that it would take ages to try another border crossing I decided to push the issue and ask someone else. We went inside and luckily a traveler was able to translate. We agreed to lay for any damages and that we would be carful with our movement!! We completed our papers, got insurance and then headed through! After that it was easy to get through. It was a 6 hour drive to Ciudad Victoria, a place where our friend Andrea suggested we stay. We were able to get to Walmart and while Josh and Sam played some basketball, I got a much needed nap. Then we met our Andrea's family and they showed us to there house. It took a long time since we had to dodge the power lines and trees. At one time I had to YELL at Sam to stop and flip a power like over the bus from the roof... Sketchy

We settled for a great dinner and planed an exciting day for tomorrow.

In this photo the powerline was actually laying on the bus. ..
